|| Shree Hari ||Sense Enjoyment and Unionभोग और योगcontinued.......One should experience joy also in sickness, in financial loss, in loss of a loved one, and this can surely happen ! There can be pleasure, even in pain. One can experience bliss even when there is a high fever, when the entire body is burning. There can be joy, even when you are insulted, even when you suffer a loss. It is very beneficial, if this point is understood ! Even animals, birds, ghosts, spirits, demons, devils etc., can be happy in favorable times and unhappy in unfavorable times. What is exceptional about having a human body, if our state is also the same ! What is the difference between animals and us ? Therefore, we must remain joyful in every situation. When pleasure comes we must be joyful, and when pain comes, then too, we must be joyful. ‒ ‘manahprasaadah soumyatvam’ (Gita 17/16) ‘मनःप्रसादः सौम्यत्वम्' (गीता १७ । १६) ‘Cheerfulness of mind, gentleness,’ (Gita 17/16)Question ‒ How to be happy, when sorrow comes, as well !Answer ‒ Just as a needle is used to remove a thorn stuck in your feet; and although there is enormous amount of pain, while removing the thorn, but, even in pain, one experiences pleasure, knowing that the thorn will soon be out. A woman experiences unbearable pain, at the time of delivery of a child. Saints have written ‒‘बाँझ कि जान प्रसव कै पीरा’ (मानस १ । ९७ । २) However, at that time when she hears that ‘a son is born’, then she experiences great joy, even during that unbearable pain. We have to take money from our earnings, to pay off debts, but one becomes extremely pleased, knowing that the debt is paid off. One feels sad when Rs. 100 are spent, but if it reduces the debt, then a gentleman is very pleased, knowing it to be a good thing ! From this it is proves that one can experience joy even in sorrow. If one thinks from the perspective of sins and virtues, then the sins are destroyed in suffering, and virtues are destroyed in pleasure. We must think that do we want the destruction of sins or virtues? No one desires that his virtues are destroyed. Old sins are eradicated, when suffering comes, when difficulties arise and moving forward there is greater caution - this is very true. Sins are eradicated to the extent unfavorable situations come. There will most certainly be joy, when sins are eradicated !
The inner-senses (mind, intellect etc.) are purified to the extent that painful situations come - this is evident and experienced. When a man becomes well after being very sick, and thereafter if he listens to talks of satsang, he becomes overwhelmed with emotions, there are tears in his eyes. The reason being that by suffering through the disease, his sins are eradicated, and the inner-senses become pure, due to which the talks of satsang makes a significant impression on him.
