The Key Point....(Saar Baat)

The Key Point
(Saar Baat)

Shree Hari

I will share with you the quintessence of all that I have heard, read and understood so far. This fundamental point is not any thing new. All have experienced and encountered it. It is man's nature that he always wants something new. In reality, a new thing is only that which remains forever. You must pay some more attention with regards to that point. It is a very beneficial thing, and it is a simple straight-forward thing. Retain it. Accept it with a firm conviction, then at this very moment you will cross the ocean of sorrow and attain bliss. Even at this time if you are not feeling and experiencing it, then too you will surely be subjected to this in the future – this is undoubtedly true. Knowledge ripens at the opportune time, after spending time to acquire it. "vidyaa kaalem pachyate." Therefore accept that point today itself. Just as those who farm, they sow the seeds, and if someone asks, then they say the farming is done. Similarly I am saying that on accepting this point with a firm conviction then you will attain the eternally blissful state! Yes! And he who has a deep yearning, that one will realize the elemental entity "tattva" and if you have a lesser yearning then it will take longer to realize that "tattva".

This world, is constantly, every moment, going towards destruction - this is the gist, the main point. It appears like an ordinary point, but it is a very central point. It is the quintessence. This world that can be seen, heard, understood does not last even for a single moment, it is constantly going away. As many creatures that are living, they are all-in-all going towards death. The entire world is moving towards final destruction. Everything is getting destroyed. That which is seen today, becomes unseen tomorrow. That which we pay a visit to, becomes unreachable. That which exists, is entering into non-existence. This is the fundamental truth. And it is something that all have experienced. No one at all has any doubt or wariness in this regard. Now, That which is seen in the form of "IS" reality, it will be going towards "Not" (non-existence). Body, money, land, house, family, honor, greatness, fame, post, rights, abilities etc, everything is going towards "Not" in other words, it is going towards "non-existence". Listen to this very carefully, understand it, and accept it. It is the absolute truth. The main mistake is believing the world to be "Is" i.e. accepting it as being here to stay.

Recollection (smruti) is of two kinds. 1) through making effort like repeating divine name (Naam Japa) etc. and 2) through knowing. That which takes place by making an effort, does not remain constantly, at all times, but that which happens through knowing, remains all the time. If you know, then you simply know it once and for all. After knowing, then one never loses sight of it, never forgets it. The recollection that comes from doing and making an effort, is forgotten when the activity is not taking place, then there can be a mistake. The mistake made in the recollection that comes from knowing is of a different sort. Just as, an individual considers himself to be a Brahmin, then for the entire day, he does not remember even once that he is a Brahmin. However, though not recollecting, then too within he always and constantly knows that he is a Brahmin. Sometimes if someone asks, then he will say that he is a Brahmin. This remembrance can be said to be forgotten when the man considers himself to be a Vaisya, Kshatriya, or Harijan. In the same way, if you believe the things of the world to be real, then it is a mistake. Therefore thoroughly accept that this world is all the time moving towards destruction. Thereafter whether this is remembered or not, the thing that is accepted does not have to be remembered.

Good Fortune through Proper Use

(Sadupyog se Kalyaan)

There is a saying among people that - "chal-balki kheti bhali belaa-pulko daan |" The moment it rains, immediately sow the seeds, then the work will get done. That which takes place at the very beginning (of the rains), will not take place later on. Similarly, there is great value in doing charity, upon meeting a good recipient. I have heard the following about Draupadi. Draupadi was a woman in her previous life. One winter day, she went to fill water from a river. A Brahmin demi-god, wearing a loin cloth was bathing in the river. At that time, the loin cloth, came loose and was carried away by the surge of the water. Outside many women were standing. Poor Brahmin was shivering in the cold. Draupadi, tore a piece of her sari and threw it towards the Brahmin, but that too flowed away. She tore a couple more pieces of the sari and hurled them to the Brahmin, but they too were swept away by the flow of the water. Then she tore another piece and tied a stone to it and threw that, which the Brahmin caught hold off. With that sari piece, he made a loin cloth and wearing it, came out of the river. That lady did not think that how can I tear off my sari. That one strip of sari, became so very long! When Draupadi was being dis-robed, and her sari was being pulled, at that time God said -

Aaratvaan ateetko, deevee cheer ki leer |

Mein na badhaayou Draupadi, Tu hi badhaayou cheer ||

Poor Brahmin was shivering in the river waters. To save his face from the shame of being without clothes, you tore your sari to give to him. "dussasan ki bhoojaa yakit bhayi, basan roop bhaye syaam." So there is great glory of giving charity at the right time, of putting things to proper use.

If you have less strength, if the situation and circumstances are not so good, then too you were not fearful, rather you thought that what should I do at such a time? Then some solution or the other will come about. Any person that will be much obliged through you, which will lead to your good fortune, your eternal good. Gentlemen! Glories are not of things, situations etc., but of their use. You can put to proper use favorable times and also unfavorable times. You can put to proper use fit body, as well as, an unfit body. Whether you possess a lot or have nothing at all - both those situations can be put to proper use. Therefore seeing your situation do not become afraid. If you put the circumstances to proper use, then God will be pleased.

Narayan ! Narayan !! Narayan !!!

Good Fortune through Proper Use

There was a child carrying some heavy goods, he said in self-praise to his father "Wow! Look how much heavy things I can carry!" The father could easily carry the same things in one hand, whereas, the child was applying his total strength to lift the things, therefore the father says to the child "Wow!". In the same light, gentlemen ! whatever things, situations, etc. you have received, utilize those properly. You wish that if you had more money, if your situation and circumstances were better, if your body was healthy, then you would achieve that which was for your eternal good. But you say, what to do, we do not have the knowledge, the intellect, the abilities! The truth is that, no person has any expectations of you with regards to your knowledge, intellect and abilities. Even God does not have any expectation. Whatever you have, use that itself properly, then God will see to your eternal good. Gentlemen! Situations and circumstances are not the ones to lead you to your salvation, to your eternal good. What will lead to your welfare, is the knack of properly utilizing those situations. You think and understand this and make proper use of the situations and circumstances then with that you will attain salvation, you will be greatly benefited.

A story that I had read in childhood comes to mind. This was from a books called "Birbal Vinod" where there is a conversation taking place between the king Akbar and Birbal. One time the King asked that what is a good weapon by which we can gain victory? Birbal the wise Brahmin, answered in straight-forward Rajasthani language - "Osaan" (that particular moment) ! The king thought about testing Birbal. One day Birbal went with the king to the forest. The king's grace was on Birbal. Birbal used to cook his own meals and eat. He was once cooking his own "roti" (Indian bread) and eating it when the king arranged to have a drunken elephant run loose where Birbal was cooking. He wanted to test how Birbal would defend himself! Birbal saw the elephant coming. There was a dog lying on the side. Birbal gave a piece of bread to the dog. As the elephant came close, he lifted the dog by the leg and threw it on the elephant. The dog flew across hitting the elephant on the head. The elephant fled fearing what problems would come next! Now! has anyone heard of such a weapon for scaring off the elephant? This is the opportune time to scare the elephant and make him go away. Whatever opportune moment comes about, that itself becomes the weapon. Similarly, the moment that arrives, that itself is offering (charitable) and an asset. (to be continued)

Now think! After much charity and virtuous deeds, Yudhishtirji's yagya was not as good as the Brahmin's yagya. It is not that on giving more donations, more merits will be accumulated. A woman thinks that if I have money, then I will do more charity, I will donate so much for special prayers, I will take special holy baths, I will do this and that. So many other divine desires come to mind! Sisters! Do that which is within your means. Just as, there is a tax on the goods. But if you don't have any goods, then what is there to pay for? Tax is applied only to what you have.

Satt saaru baantiye, "naapo" kahat naraam |

Nipat nakaaro na deejoye, und dekh gharaam ||

A poet named "Naap" once said that man gives charity according to his capacity. Feeling a lack of things in your house, do not outright say "No" to anyone. Rather give something or the other.

If you give as per your capacity, then it will be a great offering. The glories are of the proper utilization of things. It is not that when you have more money, then you will do more charity, visit holy places, perform austerities, observe fasts, organize grand lectures, but what to do, we do not have any money! Gentlemen! If you do not have money, then you are not obligated to do charity, visit holy places, observe fasts and perform sacrificial fires etc. You only expect from a small child what he is capable of doing. Does God not know as much as you and is He not as compassionate as you? Does God not know your power and strength? You only have to do as much as is within your control. Whatever abilities you have, circumstances you have, you must utilize it properly, then your good fortune will not be any less. That Brahmin's yagya was not any less than that of Yuddhistir; although he did not even have much food at home, then too it was greater than Yuddhistir's yagya.

Therefore do not wish that if I had more money, then I would do more charity. Whatever is with you, utilize that in the best-of-best ways, then that is no small work, it will be of great significance. I have heard a story, which I have been told is from Dakshinaatya Ramayan. The great battle between Shri Ram and Ravana is going on in full force. At that time a squirrel carrying a piece of straw in both hands came to Ramji and said, I will kill Ravana! God was pleased with the squirrel, placed His hands on her, and by the touch of His fingers, it became a log of wood. What power does a squirrel have to kill Ravana? But she applied here total strength, whereby God became very pleased.

You apply complete and total strength for other's well-being and good fortune. God sees that even on having ordinary strength, you are making an effort towards other's welfare, then minimally God should see to your salvation and good fortune. If men of ordinary strength also apply their full strength working for the well-being of others, then good saints and great souls, are also greatly influenced. (to be continued)

Good Fortune through Proper Use...(Sadupyog se Kalyaan)

Good Fortune through Proper Use

One time the Brahmin did not get food from anywhere. One day, he found some barley, in a barley field. He picked it up and brought it home to the family. The wife and daughter-in-law, ground it into flour and roasted it and prepared bread. All four family members were hungry for several days. They made five parts of that bread.

When food is prepared, it is a sin to eat everything that is prepared. He who prepares a meal only for himself and eats it, is a sinner that devours sins - "Bhunjate te tvadham paapaa ye pachantyaatmakaaranaat" (Gita 3/13). Manuji has said - "Kevalaaghi bhavati kewalaadi" If food is prepared then it is a duty of a householder to be hospitable to his guests. God has given the responsibility of rearing and upbringing of all human beings - students (brahmachaari), hermits (vaanaprastha), and renunciate (sannyaasi) to a householder (grahastha). Therefore if anyone comes to the house, then give them something. It is not that they have to be well-fed, simply give them something. There is a saying that respond with your hands, not with your speech.

The Brahmin, made an offering of the food to God, then he divided the bread into five bowls and went outside to look for a guest. After the food is prepared, one must wait in anticipation for a guest as long as it takes to milk a cow. If a guest does not arrive, then removing and keeping his portion aside, one can eat. If the guest arrives before beginning your meal, then first serve him and thereafter one must eat. At that very same time a Brahmin arrived. He was offered the portion of the food "bhikshaa" that was saved for the guest. He finished the portion and still appeared hungry. The householder Brahmin gave his portion. The guest Brahmin, devoured that as well. The wife said, that the guest appears to be still hungry, I can give my portion to him. The Brahmin explained to her, you are of the female race, that have a tendency to feel very hungry. You will be unable to bare the hunger. When we have respectfully invited the guest and given him a portion, our duty has been fulfilled. You do not be concerned. The wife said, you have remained hungry and I should eat ? Such a thing can never happen. On much insistence by the wife, her portion too was given to the guest. The guest devoured that as well, and still remained hungry. Now the son, requested that his portion also be given to the Brahmin guest. The father said, that at your young age, the fire element in the body is strong and hunger can be intense, therefore you should eat. The boy willingly gave his portion as well to the Brahmin guest, who ate it all. Now the daughter-in-law gave her portion, and thereafter the Brahmin felt satisfied with his meal. It is not an ordinary thing to give food to someone, while you remain hungry. It is very difficult. You have heard, and I have said, what is so difficult? One knows when something like this takes place. All four were pleased on giving up their share, thinking they have greatly benefited. The guest appeared in his real form as Dharmaraj and said that you all are very righteous. I was only testing you. I have lost, and you have won. You have gained victory over righteousness. You all will go to heaven. They all went with Dharmaraj. The mongoose said he saw all of this! Holy water was sprinkled over their food bowls, and when the mongoose came in contact with that water, wherever the water touched his skin, those parts of his body turned into gold. Therefore his partial body was golden. When the mongoose heard about Yudhirstir's yagya, he came there, and tried to roll himself in the yagya place, but nothing happened. Not a single hair of his had turned to gold. He therefore said - why are you engaging in false praises of this yagya? (to be continued)

This is about a gentleman in Calcutta who was a business man and a trader. He used to say that why do rich people not come for satsang? They have so much money that even if they sit around and eat, their wealth will not be exhausted. Then, why do the not come for satsang? He repeatedly said so. Now he too has a lot of money, and he too has stopped coming for satsang. Now he does not get time for satsang. I asked him, before you used to comment on the rich men not making time for satsang but, now you yourself are not coming, why? He replied - How can I come? The business has grown significantly, and I don't get the time.

As the water increases in a lake, proportionately increases the mud and the slime. First it is less, then it becomes more. As the money grows, so does the poverty grow. But, man never pay attention to this. He never thinks about this. An ordinary man is hungry for hundred or thousand rupees, but a man who has thousand, is hungry for lacs. A millionaire is hungry for several millions. As the wealth increases, the hunger for it also increases. An ordinary man is not hungry for millions. But no one looks towards that. They only see that they have acquired lots of money and are enjoying.

Brothers, pay attention! One does not need a lot of money. However much of money you have, utilize that itself in the best of best possible work as this will lead to many virtues. It is not a rule that the more the money that you acquire, that many more virtuous deeds you will incur. However much is your strength, however much you can spend, by spending that much you will be benefited. A rich man will spend a lot, then he will be benefited. An ordinary man will spend a little and will be benefited.

Yuddhishtir Maharaj performed a very big Yagna (sacrificial fire ceremony). He kept Duryodhan, his enemy, in charge of the treasury, so that the more he loots, the greater will be the sacrificial ceremony. Nowadays, people keep very miserly people in charge of the treasury. A miserly person will be a disgrace. Duryodhan gave ten times the amount of money, by which there were praises from all directions. The Brahmins were praising! Saying Yuddhistir Maharaj has perform an exceptional "yagya". During that time a mongoose came there and said in human language that in this forest he saw a "yagya" performed by a Brahmin family, and this yagya is nothing in comparison to that one. He asked what did you see? The mongoose said - A pure Brahmin, his wife, son and daughter-in-law, these four were living in that forest. The Brahmin's nature was on of sacrifice. They make do with the bare necessities. After the fields are harvested, the Brahmins take possession of the grains that fall on the earth after the harvest. This family sustained their lives from picking up those grains. (to be continued)

Worldly attraction, worldly pull is a sign of ignorance. It is indication of foolishness - "raago lingamabodhasya chittavyaayaambhoomishu" The extent of pull towards the perishable, to that extent one is foolish. One lights a fire in the hollow of a tree, and then looks towards the heavens in anticipation, that when will the tree become green? When will it bare fruits and flowers, then this is foolishness no doubt. In the same way, there is attraction towards the world, and then you look expectantly for happiness and peace, but this will never happen!

What does man do? He continues to increase his attraction, but he desires peace. Let me have so much money, then I will be happy. Let me have that many possessions then I will be pleased. O' Brothers! Happiness does not come from having wealth and prosperity. This is your misunderstanding, if you doubt then test it for yourself and see. He who has the most amount of money, meet him and ask him, you do not have any kind of unhappiness in your life, do you ? There is no sort of lack of peace within you, is there? He will reveal his hidden truths, then you will be able to reconcile and clarify!

One house was filled with many rats. To kill them would not be proper. Best would be to trap them and release them in the forest, where they would be safe - thinking so, a man purchased a mouse trap. He places a piece of bread inside, and kept it in a dark spot. Now the rats that arrived and surrounded the trap were thinking that if somehow they could grab hold of the bread that was inside the trap then they will be blessed! Searching searching they were able to find the entrance to the trap, the moment they stepped in the spring was released and few were trapped.

The ones outside felt the ones trapped inside were rejoicing, and they were stuck outside. In this way, more mice continued to get trapped. This trap was created by someone else, but the trap that we get entangled in, is our own creation.

He who has less money, he sees that by whichever means – through cheating, lying, treachery, stealing etc, if he can accumulate money, then he will become happy. On having money, there will be much enjoyment, it will be a lot of joy. Those who are unmarried see the married people having a lot of fun, they feel left behind. In whatever way, our marriage should take place. When they get married and when they are asked – Jai Ramjiki! How are things? Then they say - Man we are trapped! Before when working in the big cities, there was no problem, I could live off my suitcase, anywhere, now with children and family, it has become very difficult! Where to keep the children? How to keep them? Their education has to be arranged for, when they grow up their marriage has to be arranged. It is quite difficult. Similarly, many say the rich are very happy, they enjoy lot of rest and relaxation, Stay with them and see for yourself. They do not get restful sleep at night. They cannot eat food on time. Even though it may be two in the afternoon, they may have not had time to eat their "roti" (bread). At night it turns 11- 12 o clock. There have been many such examples. I am not saying those things just like that, I have seen these myself and sharing these. Things in the books are genuine, as the Rishi-Munis had experienced in their deep meditation, and contemplative stages and only thereafter they have written. (to be continued)

Good Fortune through Proper Use...(Sadupyog se Kalyaan)

Good Fortune through Proper Use

(Sadupyog se Kalyaan)

Shree Hari

First and the foremost there are two points that is most essential to know about – perishable and the imperishable. To know these is man's main work. God started to speak about these from the very beginning in the Gita. From Gita 2/11 to Gita 2/30, the Lord talked about real – unreal, eternal-temporary, body-indweller in the body, and about the differences between the two. On clearly understanding the differences between the two, all the spiritual disciplines such as karmayog, jnanayog and bhaktiyog become easy. Without understanding the differences, the spiritual practice becomes difficult. If the differences are clearly understood, then you will rise above the changing, there is no doubt about this, because as such we are above that which is changing. What is the difficulty in experiencing what we already are? Eternal and temporary, real and unreal, imperishable and perishable – on clearly understanding the differences between them self-realization will take place and one will be freed from the cycle of birth and death. On association with the modes of nature, attachment, fondness, attraction arise, which themselves are the main cause of birth and death - "kaaranam gunasangosya sadasdhyaonijanmasu" (Gita 13/21).

Many brothers say that what to do, our mind does not remain fixed on God and therefore nothing will happen. If the mind does not engage in worship and reverence of God, then what is the benefit of doing "bhajan"?. There is nothing in reciting "Ram Ram" without engaging the mind – many others also draw such conclusions. Quickly giving your decisions and opinions, your agreements and compliance to others, is not using the intellect. You ask them, have you done this and seen for yourself? There are many great herbal medical doctors for a cure, but nowadays every man wants to cure. Give so and so to him, he will become alright. Do not give so and so, by that he will not get cured - these kinds of advice are given even while on the move. Ask him whether he has read Ayurveda? Acting like a doctor? This is called indigestable intellect.

Goswami Tulasidasji Maharaj entire life was spent under the shelter of the Lord's Name (Ram Ram). First his name was "Rambola", because the moment he was born, he uttered the words "Ram"/ The name Tulasidas, came much later on. He says -

Bhaayam kubaayam anakh aalasahun |

Naam japat mangal disi dasahun || (Manas, Balakand 28/1)

Immediately on taking the Lord's Name auspiciousness happens in all the ten directions. Even if the Name is repeated with bad feelings, then too it will do only good. But people say that if the mind does not become engaged in divine name then so be it! Brothers and Sisters, pay attention and listen to what I am saying and think over it. It will never be that first your mind will become engaged and then you will recite the Lord's name. As you repeat the name of the Lord , the mind will become engaged. At the very minimum, begin to repeat the Lord's name. People don't themselves do anything and they say that – if the mind is not engaged then there is no gain in this. And saying so, they make others also give up their spiritual practices! You too are going to hell and also taking others with you. Gentlemen! What is the main dangerous thing?

The attachment , the fondness, the attraction, that we have to perishable things is what is dangerous. It is the fondness for the perishable that will make you cry - "priyastvaam rodayati." (to be continued)

Good Fortune through Proper Use

(Sadupyog se Kalyaan)

A hunter killed a deer in the forest, and carrying it he was walking on. On the way, he sat under the shade of a tree being exhausted, hungry and very thirsty. On that tree was a tamed parrot, who had escaped from his cage and landed here. A snake came out of the tree and bit the hunter. The parrot called out "Ram Ram". The hunter heard the name of the Lord, so he too uttered - "Ram Ram" and immediately died. The messenger of the God of Death arrived to take him away to God's abode (Vaikunth). Even Lord Parashadon said - it is because he was repeating the name of the Lord at the last breath that he will attain salvation. They both began to argue. To reach a conclusive ruling, all the sins were weighed on one side of the scale and the Divine Name was weighed on the other side, the end outcome was that the Divine Name weighed heavily, and the hunter attained the immortal state (from Karunasaagar 67-70)

God's Name is Infinite. There is immense power in God's Name. One cannot measure the sins in comparison to the Divine Name. Just as, a single match stick is needed to burn a bushel of cotton, then do you need 40 match sticks to burn one ton of cotton? Here there is no such equivalence. It is not that the more cotton there is, the more fire will be needed to burn it. Similarly, there is no such thing that the more the sins, the more the Divine Name repetition . A building may have been in complete darkness, but on lighting a single candle, the darkness disappears. The world and this life is momentary, perishable, going away, getting destroyed, but God, God's name, God's glories, God's radiance and influence will remain constantly and eternally. The one who is flowing has no power what so ever, in front of the one who remains.

The body, senses, etc are perishable, changing and the Self (Jivaatma, embodied soul) is imperishable, unchanging, therefore let us have a proper understanding and knowledge of these two. It is a great mistake to take the support of the perishable and to regard it as one's own. On having money, my work will be completed; on having family I will be alright, I will be able to do so and so with this body; I have many remarkable capabilities; I am very educated, I have a very high post (position; I have much authority etc. These are all going to change and come to an end. If you leave the support of all these, and only take the support of God, then you will be greatly benefited. (to be continued)

Good Fortune through Proper Use

(Sadupyog se Kalyaan)

Shree Hari
Men have given great importance to things and persons, but really speaking, they are not that important. The importance is in their good use. They can be used correctly or they can be misused. If they are rightly utilized, then every place, time, thing, individual, situation etc., can lead to a man's welfare. Man is independent in proper use or mis-utilization. No one is independent in making the situation favorable for himself .

Firstly men give great importance to things, but they pay no attention towards their proper use. Therefore, they become dependent, they get bound. What to do in front of them? How to do? Such fearsome circumstances come their way. To be saved from these, it is essential to learn this point that how to put these things to proper use? Situations come and go in front of man, they keep changing. No situation remains the same at all times, nor things remain the same, nor individual remain the same, nor the state and condition remains the same. They all keep changing. If these changing things are put to the best of best use then it will be the kind that will lead to good fortune.

First and the foremost the point that has to be understood is that you and your situation, you and your things, you and your state, you and your associations, you and your space, you and your time - these two are separate. The point is that all those things that are born and later destroyed they are all a part of "Nature" (prakruti), and you are a part of God. You are the kind that remains perpetually forever. However, those things that are born of nature, are the kind that continuously and always change. . Never for a moment it stays the same. Its unions and separation are taking place every moment and all the time, like the flow of the river which is constantly surging forward.

You are the one to remain - "Nitya sarvagatah sthaanurachloyam sanatanah" (Gita 2/24) You are eternal, constant, and these all (body, world) are changing. Why would the constant be influenced by the changing objects? The reason is - that which is constant establishes a relationship with the changing. The body and you, (the one residing in the body) are two separate. You are not the body and the body is not yours. But the mistake is that you have created a sense of I-ness (ahamtaa) and Mine-ness (mamta) with the body. You have situated yourself in the body, so a sense of I-ness "ahamtaa" is born and by accepting that the body and various things are mine - a sense of mine-ness (mamtaa) is born. Due to sense of I-ness there is distinction, inequality (bhed-bhaav), and due to sense of mine-ness (mamta) there is conflict, friction (sangharsh). Both these lead to bondage.

The Final Discourse..(Antim Pravachan)

The Final Discourse

(Antim Pravachan)

Shree Hari

Please check out http://www.satcharcha.blogspot.com/ for the last bhajan in Hindi titled MILLIONS OF PRANAAMS TO YOU (Tumko Laakhon Pranaam!!) sung to Swamiji by the devotees present there (It is difficult to translate into English).

WE ARE SITUATE IN GOD

One excellent, very easy, very straight forward point. That is - Do not have any desires of any sort, whatsoever. Neither of Paramatma (God), nor of Self (Atma), nor of the World, nor of Salvation, nor of Benediction, have no desires at all and be silent. Be still. Because Paramatma is present in all places, in the form of stillness. If there is no want, no desire of any sort, then Paramatma can be realized instantly, Self-Realization can happen, perfection and complete fulfillment is attainable !

This is everyone's experience that some desires are fulfilled and others are not. It is not a rule that all desires will be fulfilled. The fulfillment of all desires is not in our hands, but it is in our hands to give up desires. When no more wishes, no more desires remain, then you will be naturally situated in Paramatma. You will have the realization (experiential
knowledge) of God. No wants, nothing to do, no place to go, no place to arrive, nothing to study, nothing to practice, that is all there is - only these simple points. In just these few words, everything has been said entirely ! It is due to desiring something that we experience bondage in this world. On leaving these desires completely, once and for all, one becomes naturally, situated in Paramatma (God), who is present everywhere, in entirety.

In all your activities remain neutral and impartial. Have no attachment (likes) and aversion (dislikes).

"Tulasi mamata Ram so, samtaah sab sansaar
Raag ne rosh ne dosh dukh, daas bhaye bhav paa." (Dohaavali 94)

There are actions and there are objects. Both these are in Nature (Prakriti). While discontinuing relationship with objects and actions, become dependent on only Paramatma (God). Take refuge in only God, That is It. You are already naturally situated in God.

In a dream a lady's child was lost. She was deeply distressed and grieving. But when she woke up from her sleep, she saw that her child is sleeping right next to her - The point of this message is that wherever you are, there Paramatma (God) IS completely and entirely. Wherever you are, there itself be still !!

From last discourse in Hindi by Swami Ramsukhdasji on June 29th, 2005 at Gita Bhavan, Swargashram, Rishikesh, India, where Swamiji last resided.

Question: Yesterday you said that have no wants. Leave desires and become silent, of these two, which one is more beneficial?

Swamiji - I am God's, God is mine, I am no one elses, and no one else is mine. Accept this. Becoming free of desires and becoming silent - both these are the same. Let there be no desire at all, neither of sense enjoyments, nor of liberation, nor of love, nor of devotion, nor anything else.

Questioner - One is not to desire, but if some work needs to take place then?

Swamiji - Do the work with great enthusiasm, do it round the clock, but don't have any want. Understand this point properly. Serve others, try to remove their sorrows, but in return do not want anything from them. Serve them, and then become silent. If working somewhere, take the wages, but do not desire anything.

The main point is that wherever you are, there itself is God. If you desire nothing, then you will be situated in only God. When all is God only, then what is there to desire? It is due to desiring the world, that we are in the world. When there is no desire, then we are situated in God

Mother

Mother
(MAA)

Shree Hari

Whatever a mother owns, it is all to provide for the child. A mother's strength, intellect, abilities, education, body, clothes, house, etc. all of it is for the child only. Similarly, whatever capabilities, power, extra-ordinariness that God has, it is all for us only. If it is not for us, then who is it for? Therefore at no time should we worry about anything at all. Even if worries occasionally arise, then, say to God - "He Naath! See! worries have come" Just as when a child is thirsty, he says "Boo Boo" and the Maa feeds him some water. In no language the expression "Boo" means water, but the minute a child says "boo", the mother gives him water to drink, similarly in whatever language we say anything at all, our Maa (God) will understand it -

Gungaa teri baatko aur na smajhe koi |
Kai samajhai teri maavadi kai samajhai teri joi

Just as a man who cannot speak, his language is understood by his mother and his wife. Who else will understand his language? However, whether God understands our language or not, this too should be of no concern to us. We must simply continue to call out "Maa! Maa ! Surely a child does not use some special means to call out to his mother. He simply continues to say, Maa! Maa! In the same way, simply continue to call out "Maa! Maa! That is it! There is nothing more that needs to be done. Maa appears dear, Maa's name is pleasing. Therefore lovingly say - Maa! Maa!! Maa!!!

We met a gentleman. He said that when I rotate the "mala" (Holy beads), then I make the sounds that are made while relishing tasty food. Now what is the method of doing "bhajan"! We simply have to make the sound of relishing good food. With great joy, repeat the Lord's Name, chant His name. Whatever you do, do so joyfully.

"What will happen ? How will it happen ?" - we have nothing to do with all of this. The mother is concerned about these things, and she worries about all this. Just as Mother Yashoda and Mother Kaushalya worried about when will my "Lala" (loving son) get married? But the "Lala" does not understand what marriage is and what it is not? He is simply rejoicing and playing around in his own joyful state. Similarly our Mother worries about what will happen to her child, how will it happen? We have no concern about all this, and we have no need to even know. Mother knows and her work knows! We have to remain in bliss and bliss alone and remain in the mother's lap! What a jubilant point this is. What a blissful thing! "Tu jaane tera kaam jaane" You know and your work knows. Saying so, become free of all worries, free of fear, free of remorse and free of all doubts. We have to remain ever blissful and jubilant. At all times we have to be carefree and happy.

We have no work whatsoever, only rejoicing, remaining blissful! Our responsibility is only one and that is, to remain joyful, to remain blissful at all times. It is a good feeling to call the name of mother - Maa ! Maa ! Saying Maa! Maa ! is a dear and affectionate feeling, therefore we repeat His name. Ram ! Ram! Appears sweet, therefore we say so. In this there is no rule or ordinance that we must repeat so many times. What is there in that many times or the other? We are saying Maa Maa, out of our own will. How are we to repeat the Lord's Name? How many times? How is "Bhajan" to be done? How much bhajan is to be done? With all of this, what is our intent? The name of Maa is dear to us, therefore with great joy, with pure delight and contentment (prasannataa se) we repeat the name. We are simply in ecstacy. We are experiencing great joy. We are very much pleased! We are most delighted and contented!

Shree Hari

Does the child understand mother's efforts?  Does a child have any power to understand her endeavors?  No ! a child has no such power to comprehend her struggles.  The child has no need whatsoever to understand her labor.  He simply lies in his Maa's lap.    Likewise, there is no need for us to understand what God does and how he does it.  How is He, where does He live -  we have no need to know all this.  Does a child know where his mother was born?  Whose daughter is she?   Whose sister?  Whose wife?  Whose sister-in-law?  Whose aunt?  Where does she live?   How does she support herself?  What does she do?  What business does she do and at what time,?   Etc.  The child knows nothing about these things,  and also the child has no need to know this.   Similarly how is our God (Maa)?  Who is she?  Whether she is beautiful or not?  Whether she is harsh or compassionate?  Whether she is good or bad?  Whether she is helpful or harmful?  Etc. etc.   what have we got to do with all of this?  Simply that she is my mother.  Whatever is good for us, she will do on her own.  What do we know of good and bad?  What understanding do we have about what is good and what is not?   Do we have that knowledge?   Can we see that?  Oh!  What can Surdas see? What do we understand of what is good and what is not?  What is proper and what is improper?   There is no need to explain any of this at all.  Simply, I am His and He is mine.  He alone is my mother, my father, my brother, my friend, my family member and He is everything.  And He only is my wealth, my possessions,  my glories, my land,  my property etc. He is everything –

tvameva   mata   cha   pita   tvameva
tvameva bandhuscha sakha tvameva  |
tvameva  vidyaa   dravinam tvameva
tvameva sarvam mama   devadeva       ||

"You are my mother, father, brother, friend, knowledge .....You are my everything."

If someone asks you,  who is your mother?  God!  Who is your father? God!  Who is your brother?  God!   Who is your companion?   God!  Who does your work?  God!  Everything is only God. Everything is only Maa.  Just as for a child, the mother is the clothes washer, mother is the hair dresser,  mother is the midwife,  mother is the one to breastfeed,  mother is the Lord,  mother is Guru (spiritual guide),  mother is servant,  mother is also a sweeper,  etc.   Mother is the one who does even the most menial tasks and even the most skilled tasks.  Like that, everything is only God, then what are we worried about!
Chinta deen-dayaalko mo man sada anand.  It is joy and only joy in our minds.   Simply bliss !  Whether He is concerned for us, not concerned,  what care do we have of this?   Just as, whether the mother is worried or not about her child, what concern does the child have about this!  She is worried about him on her own;  because the child is her very own.  It is no obligation for her to care for her own child.   Rather it is her duty.   Whether she does or does not do her duty, what has the child got to do with it?   Child has no concern whatsoever regarding this matter.  God too is like our mother in the same way,  that is it!  He is our mother.  We neither have to do anything, nor do we have to know anything,  nor study anything;  but only remain joyful at all times.  We have to blissfully play.  Lying in the mother's lap, simply play, laugh and be happy.   Why must we be happy?  Because the mother is pleased, i.e. when we are happy, then the mother is pleased.   For her pleasure only we are sitting in her lap, playing,  jumping, and doing all work.   We have no concern with anything else at all.   We are only concerned about our one mother.

Shree Hari
Surdasji went to a God's temple, where people said - "What brings you here?" He said - "I have come to see my Lord" People said - "You do not have eyes, how will you be able to see God?" He said - "If I do not have eyes for beholding God, but does Thakurji (God) not have eyes? God will be able to see me! He will become pleased on seeing me, then my work will be done."

Now Brother! Sister! Pay attention. Just as I have no eyes, but God has eyes, with that He sees me. Similarly gentlemen! If you do not have awareness of God, then is God not conscious of you? If God is not known by me, but am I not in God's awareness and consciousness? When I am in His consciousness, then I have never to worry about anything at all. Just as a child is in his mother's site, till then no one can do him any wrong and whatever is needed for the child, the mother will arrange everything for him. Similarly, in God's presence, we are never distant from him, then our protection, provision, welfare etc. whatever is needed, that all He will provide.
God says in the Gita - Ananyaascintayanto maam ye janaah paryupaasat
tesaam nityaabhiyuktaanaam yogaksemam ahaamyaham. ( 9:22)

"To those men, who worship Me alone, thinking of none but Me, who are ever-devout, I make provisions to protect what they have and I also provide them with all the necessities that are required." (Gita 9:22)

"macchitah sarvadurgaani matprasaadaattrishyasi" (Gita 18/58);
"By fixing your mind on Me, you will by My favor, conquest all difficulties, "; and

"matprasaadaadvaanoti shaasvatam padmavyayam" (Gita 18/56)
"That eternal ever-lasting post can also be attained by My grace."

The point is that the Lord knows of our presence, His grace is on us, therefore He will protect us from the inauspicious and will make us attain Him. However our mind must remain fixed on Him. Our trust and faith should all be on God. Even if our trust and faith is not on Him, His grace will shower on us. He is already making all the provisions for us. Whatever is for our welfare, and eternal good, He is naturally doing that for us.

We see pleasure and pain in two different forms. Pleasure is separate and pain is separate. However in God's abode, pleasure and pain are not separate. Just as "laalane taadne maaturnaakaaroopnyam yathaarbhake | Tadvedeva maheshasya niyanturgunadoshyoh||"

Mother does not have two different feelings while loving or scolding. With only one feeling, the mother loves and scolds. In other words, with a heart filled with love, she loves the child, and seeing towards what is for his good, she also slaps him. Then does she do anything that is harmful to the child? Never ! In the same way, when God does what is in accordance to our wishes and other times not and slaps us, then too in His doing, we must see that He is our mother! Maa! If He does that which is favorable or unfavorable, whatever He does, in that is our welfare, whether we understand it or not.

Way to Attain Eternal Peace
(Param Shaanti ka Upaaya)

Shree Hari

Prakrutaiva cha karmaani kriyamaanaani sarvashah |
Yah paschyati tathaatmaanamakartaaram sa paschyati ||  (Gita 13/29)
He who knows that all actions take place through Nature,  sees himself as a non-doer. And when he sees himself as a non-doer then -
Yasya naahakruto baavo buddirasya na lipyate |
Hatvaapi sa imaamllokaanan hanti na nibadhyate ||  (Gita 18/17)
Though he kills, then too as such he neither kills, nor is bound by sins.
Man is bound only due to sense of I-ness, and this sense of I-ness is non-existent as such.  It is only assumed to be so.  And that which has been accepted,  simply by not-accepting, it is released.  This is your, mine and everyone's experience.  Therefore accept this point, that this body is not me and is not mine.  The body is separate and I am separate.
Vaasaansi jeernaani yathaa bihaaya navaani gruhynaati naroparaani ||  (Gita 2/22)
Just as a man takes off his torn clothes and wears new ones, then the clothes are not the man,  in the same way, this body too is not me and not for me.  If we continue to increase the sense of me and mine, thinking that I will become learned, I will be  a scholar,  I will be an orator, a lecturer,  I will become great, I will become rich, very wealthy and prosperous,  and  I will  have a large family.  In this mannerif you continue to increase the sense of me and mine, then you will not attain peace and happiness.  And whenever you leave sense of me and mine,  then at that very moment "sa shaantimadhigacchyati" You will attain peace.  Then a question arises that  -
How does one attain Peace?
By increasing sense of me and mine, lack of peace arises on its own.  The more there is the sense of me and mine, that much more there will be lack of peace.  And wherever there is renunciation of me and mine, there instantly there will be peace.
Tyaagaacchaantirantaram  (Gita 12/12)

It is a simple straight-forward point,  that while relating with the world, you may say that this land, house, wife, son, family are mine, but from within have no sense of mine-ness, "aasakti" infatuation or attachment towards it.  (to be continued)

Way to Attain Eternal Peace
(Param Shaanti ka Upaaya)

Shree Hari

If man only honors his experience, then all work will be done.  What is that experience?  All the things that we have received, they are all not ours.  This is the main point.  That which we have got, is not ours.  Think about this point.  On accepting so,  a sense of mine-ness (mamta) will go away.  Not only sense of mine-ness, but also I-ness (ahamtaa) will disappear.  The Lord calls this body as "Idam shareeram kaunteya kshetram"  (Gita 13/1).   "Idam"  which means "This" has been used.   "This" cannot be "me" and that which is  "me"  it cannot be "this".  After saying "Idam shariram"  (this body), then he describes the body.
Mahabhootaanyahamkaaro buddhirevyaktmeva cha |
Indriyaani dashaikam cha panch chendriyagocharaah ||  (Gita 13/5)
"The five great elements, ego, intellect, and the  primordial Matter (Nature), they are all within the realm of `this body'.  Therefore this body is not mine – understand this firmly and with deep conviction."  (Gita 13:5).
Now the question arises that is this body mine?  Are you able to keep the body as long as you want and as you please?  Are you able to change it the way you like?  Are you able to stop it from aging?   Are you able to save it from dying?   If these things are not in your hands, then how is this body yours?   Therefore while living, leave sense of I-ness and Mine-ness.
Nirmamoha nirahankaarah sa shaantimadigacchyati (Gita 2/71
Being free of egoism and sense of mine-ness,  you will attain peace.  Even if you do not leave I-ness and mine-ness, it will surely depart.  This sense of I-ness and Mine-ness will also not remain.  But if you do not leave it, you will continue to experience lack of peace,  sorrow,  anguish and burning sensation. You will have to bare the fruits of sinful and virtuous actions performed by this body  for many life-times.  Therefore if you accept that this body, senses, mind, intellect and ego are not mine, then the actions performed by these are not yours.  Gita has said that  -
"gunaa guneshu vartante"  (Gita 3/28)
In other words, it is all an interplay of modes of nature
prakriteh kriyamanani, gunaih karmani sarvasah
ahankara-vimudhatma, kartaham iti manyate  (Gita 3/27)
"All actions are performed, in all cases, by the Gunas of Prakriti (Modes of Nature). The fool, whose mind is deluded by egoism thinks `I am the doer'."
Then what has to be done?
What has to be done is "Naivamkinchit karomiti yukto manyet" "I am doing nothing, not in the least bit" (Gita 5:8). By accepting  that I am doing nothing,  as I am the knower and all these are the things that are perceived and to be known.  How can the actions performed by these be mine? (to be continued)
