When you begin to see your
bad qualities, then it is a great
thing. The
more clarity with which one can see the bad qualities, that much more quickly one will server
relationship with those bad qualities. This is a very great spiritual point.
When an aspirant sees his
own flaws, then he begins to fear them, and feels sad wondering what to
do? I am regarded as a "sadhak"
(spiritual aspirant), and look what my
state is ! Then this sad feeling is a
good thing, however to regard those sins as being in one's self is not so
good. Pay attention, this is a very
great point for aspirants. Just as the eye liner applied within the
eye, cannot be seen by the eye, but
everything else is seen, similarly, as
long as bad qualities stay within one's self, till then they cannot be seen
clearly, and when one begins to see bad qualities, then one must understand
that now these bad qualities have become somewhat distant from me. If
they had not become distant from me,
then how would it be seen? The
more clearly that it is seen, that much the
bad qualities are going further away from us.
Something that is extremely far and extremely close cannot be seen by
the eyes. Therefore when seeing bad
qualities, one must become pleased that
now, the bad qualities are not in me.
Now these are going away. They are getting eradicated. The mistake is when an aspirant assumes them to
be in him.
To assume the bad qualities
and sins to be in us, is a very big mistake.
By accepting the bad qualities in us, the flaws become real,
they get existence, when as such, the flaws have no independent existence at
all. You yourself have an independent
existence. On regarding the bad
qualities, the sins, the flaws as being in one's self, the sins continue to establish
existence, and by that means, the sins continue to remain alive, they do not die; because they receive your strength and
power.
The
sins, flaws, bad
qualities are not in us - one way to recognize this is that the sins
are seen. The second way to recognize this
is that if there are flaws, sins in us,
then it should be seen at all times.
As long as there is knowledge that "I exist", till then, is there side
by side knowledge about
the sins, flaws being always present? No it is not there at all
times. It comes and it goes. Then how can such a coming and going
flaw, be in us?
Time and again, I tell you people, that to regard sins and flaws as being in yourself is a very great
mistake. It
is such a big mistake, that let us say that you are inviting the sins, that you
please stay here and do not go anywhere.
In this manner you are inviting the sins and
forcefully making them stay.
In essence, the flaws are
not in you; because -

sahaj such raashi || (Manas 7/117/1)
Himself being an ansh (part)
of God, that is eternal, sentient, conscious and full of
knowledge. It is pure, that is, there is no impurity in it, and it is
naturally blissful. Innately, naturally, self-evidently it is
blissful, then too it is desiring contact born pleasures from others. That is the mistake it makes. When his senses move away from others and
become established in the self, then it will experience that natural blissful
state.
