The Nature of 'Bhajan'
(Devotion and Worship)

Thirdly where the conduct and behavior of those great souls are a role model for us; as God has said ‒
यद्यदाचरति श्रेष्ठस्तत्तदेवेतरो जनः ।
स यत्प्रमाणं कुरुते लोकस्तदनुवर्तते ॥
Yadyadaacharati shreshstattdevetaro janah |
sa yatpramaanam kurute lokastdanuvartate ||
(Gita 3/21)
Whatever is the conduct of great men, other men do just the same, and whatever he says, others do according to what he says."
Fourthly, the aspirant’s inner ignition that springs forth, being free of likes (attraction) and dislikes (aversion), should also be understood to be the dispensation of the Lord.
Fifth point is that a man only instructs according to that which is favorable to his nature. But when the Lord instructs, He will instruct as per His nature, and the Lord is an eternal well-wisher of all. Therefore The Eternally compassionate Lord’s nature should be realized. By this, in whatever work one renounces their selfishness and where all beings attain their eternal and supreme good (kalyaan), and in which there is no harm to anyone whatsoever, that is the Lord’s instructions. In this manner, the secret of His instructions must be understood and one must abide in it, without any vaccilation whatsoever. Rather, these instructions should be understood to be our eternal duty, and we must make every effort to follow the path accordingly ‒
‘स्वधर्मे निधनं श्रेयः’ (गीता ३/३५)
“Svadharma nidhanam shreyah” (Gita 3/35).
"Better is one's own duty, devoid of merit, than the duty of another well performed.”
