Uninterrupted Spiritual Practice
(Akhand Saadhan)
continued......
An aspirant has one life. He must split this life into two parts. 1) The real (eternal, permanent) and 2) the unreal (temporary, perishing). He must believe that one is real and genuine and the other is false and unreal.
Just as a person in a masquerade, dresses himself knowing full
well that this is not his real self, he knows that it is just a put on. While the “sense of mine” that takes place on its own, is regarded as real, not false. In this manner, the body that we people have taken on, this is not our true self (nature). It is only a masquerade, and we are the ones who are putting on this masquerade. We have assumed a sense of I and mine-ness with it. Therefore though being God’s, we have put on a masquerade of the world. Today the talks are topsy-turvy - we are of the world and we masquerade about doing worship and devotion of God. Thus those who put on the facade of doing prayers and worship (bhajan) of God, that “bhajan” will never become unwavering and uninterrupted (continuous).
It simply won’t. Not at all. Never ever. How can something that is a farce, be continuous? A masquerade is at the time of play, afterwards it will not remain. Therefore we have to modify it, bring about a change in it that “I am God’s and God is mine” Before this body too, I was not a body and the body was not mine. And after this too, the body will not remain as me and mine, but the self will remain. Therefore accept this as belonging to God, then it is God’s. If you do not accept it as God’s then it is yours on its own.
You were once a child, that same one has now become old. Your body is not the same, the associations are not the same, the group is not the same, the guise is not the same, time is not the same, state is not the same, year is also not the same, then too you say that I am the same one - this is a very surprising thing! It is everyone’s experience, but no one pays attention to this. These things are not me, only I am I. I is constant, because, the I that was there in childhood, is the same I, today. If someone asks, what specific things are the same as in childhood?
Intellect, thoughts, aim, direction none of these are the same, but you are the same. The body is not the same, situations and circumstances are not the same, place is not the same, the company you keep is not the same, things are not the same, state is not the same, your goal is not the same, your knowledge and thoughts are not the same. When all these have changed, then how do you have a relationship with them?
This is all a masquerade. You are the knower of all these and separate from them. The knower of all these, that is you, and that you, belongs only to God. All these are the things of the world. The one who is in the masquerade, gets his mask from the company, all the costumes are made available from the company. And the stage-pavilion also belongs to the company. It is for the company’s act, on the company’s
own stage, for their pleasure that the role is acted out. The pleasure derived by the audience, is also only for the pleasure of the company’s boss. If the audience is not pleased, then no bonus is received from the boss. In the same way, the masquerade that you have put on, according to the roles, do the best of best work, but do it knowing full well that it is only an act. This is called exercising dharma (duty).
