Love of Serving in the Great Devotee Shri Hanumanji
(Bhakt
Shiromani Hanumanji ki Daasya Rati)
Continued .....
In all the different forms of love, there are believed to be two states - Union and Separation. In union, the wife serves the husband by cooking meals etc. and in separation (due to being distant from the husband) she thinks and remembers him. In the relish of separation, one is constantly mentally serving the Beloved. Therefore comparatively the love of separation is believed to be greater than that of Union. Even Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has given much honor to
the relish of separation.
the relish of separation.
In this too the state of separation in "Parkiya Madhurya Rati" is the highest of all, in which there remains eternal union between the lover and the beloved. For the increase of enjoyment of love, in eternal union, there are four states -
1. Union in Eternal union
2. Separation in Eternal union
3. Eternal Union in separation
4. Separation in Separation
When the lover and the Beloved mutually come together it is "Union in Eternal Union". When even upon meeting the beloved, when the sentiments remain that the Beloved has gone away somewhere - this is "Separation in Eternal Union". When the beloved is not in front of you, but there is deep thoughts about the beloved at all times and the beloved visibly appears as if meeting - this is "Eternal Union in Separation". When the beloved does not come in front of you for a short time, but it appears as if without meeting the beloved, ages have passed by - this is "Separation in Separation" Really speaking, in these four states, there continues to be eternal union with the Beloved. There is never any disunion, it can never be, it is not possible for it to be. It is only for the give and take of love, that the divine play of union and separation between the lover and the Beloved carries on.
Predominantly present in Hanumanji is the enjoyment in both union and separation. In union, he continued to be absorbed in serving the Lord and in separation he continued to be absorbed in thoughts and remembrance of the Lord. In union form of enjoyment, the lover himself also gains pleasure, just as along with giving pleasure to the husband, the wife herself also experiences pleasure.
But in Hanumanji enjoyment of union there is not the slightest bit of self enjoyment. He is only happy in the Lord's happiness - "Tat Sukhe Sukhitvam." He is eternally anxious and eager to serve and give pleasure to the Lord -

One time in the morning Hanumanji was hungry, so he went to Mother Sitaji and said, Maa ! I am hungry, please give me something to eat. Sitaji said, son! I have not had a bath so far. Please wait, I will immediately take a bath and give you some food. She took a bath, adorned herself., Seeing the "sindur" applied in the parting of her hari (red colored powder, symbolizing married), the simple minded Hanumanji asked - Mother! why have you applied this "sindur"? Sitaji said - Son ! By applying this your Lord (Swami's)
lives longer.
lives longer.
At this Hanumanji thought, that by applying one streak of sindur if the Lord's live span increases, then if he applies "sindur" to his entire body, how much more his life would increase! When Sitaji went to cook food, Hanumanji went to the dressing room and took the box of "sindur" and dropped it on the floor. Now the sindur spread all over, and Hanumanji took that sindur and applied it to his entire body. Now mu lord's life will be very long, thinking so, Hanumanji, became very pleased, and forgetting his hunger and thirst, he straight away went to the Lord's court. Seeing Hanumanji in this state, all began to laugh at him. Lord Ram asked, Hanuman! what has caused you to apply this sindur to your entire body? Hanumanji said - Prabhu ! on knowing that when mother applies a little sindur, and your life span increases, I therefore applied sindur to the entire body, whereby you life span will increase ten fold! Lord Ram said, very good ! now onwards, those devotees who offer you "sindur" and oil, I will be very pleased with them !
