Love
of Serving in the Great Devotee Shri Hanumanji
(Bhakt
Shiromani Hanumanji ki Daasya Rati)

Love in the form of Friendship
In love in the form of friendship, the devotee is of the entiments that God is my friend, and I am His friend. He is dear to me and I am dear to Him. He has full rights over me, and I have full rights over Him. Therefore I obey what He says, then He too should obey what I say. In the love of one who is serving, there is a hesitation that may be the Master (Swami) ma y be upset with me, or may I not make any mistake before him ! But in the love of a friend, there is no such
hesitation; because; there is a feeling of equality with God.
hesitation; because; there is a feeling of equality with God.
Due to the feelings of friendship,
Lord Shri Ram, used to continue to take
advice from Hanumanji. When Vibhishan came to take refuge of Lord Ram, then on
this subject the Lord says to Hanumanji .’
``On
the subject of duty and non-duty, when a doubt arises, a wise and capable man,
who desires steady progress of his friends must always give his opinion.``
After expressing his opinion
through Angad, Jambavaan and others, Hanumanji says-
न वादान्नापि संघर्षान्नाधिक्यान्न च कामतः ।
वक्ष्यामि वचनं राजन् यथार्थं राम गौरवात् ॥
(वाल्मिक॰ युद्ध॰ १७/५२)
``Maharaj Ram! Whatever I say,
that I will not say out of argument, deliberation, competition, out of pride of
intelligence or due to any sort of desire. I am keeping my eye on the
importance of the task at hand and that which I understand as objective, that
alone I will tell you.``
After this Hanumanji gives his
opinion that accepting Vibhishan is the best according to his understanding. By
listening to the words of Hanumanji, and what was already in the Lord's mind,
He becomes pleased and listens to Hanumanji's advice.
Parental Love and
Affection
In Parental Love and Affection,
the devotee is of the sentiments that I am the mother or the father or I am the
Lord`s Guru, and He is my son, or my disciple. Therefore,
I have to take care of Him, I have to protect Him.
Hanumanji could not bare to see Lord Shri Ram walking. And just as mother and father carry their child in their lap, similarly whenever Ramji felt like going somewhere, then Hanumanji used to make Him sit on his back and take Him places—
लिये दुऔ जन पीठि चढ़ाई ॥
(मानस ४/४/३)
पृष्ठमारोप्य तौ वीरौ जगाम कपिकुञ्जरः ॥
(वाल्मीकि॰ कि॰ ४/३४)
Charming and Sweet Love of a Lover
In the charming and sweet love of
a Lover, the devotee is totally oblivious of the glories of the Lord. In this
the devotee considers himself to be inseparable (deep feeling of my very own)
from the Lord.
It is not a rule that the
sentiments of sweet charm and loving relationship takes place only between a
man-woman. Madhurya means attractiveness, sweetness. That sweetness comes about
due to having a feeling of inseparability with the Lord. The more this feeling
of inseparability there is, that much more the sweetness and attraction there
will be. Therefore when any one of the sentiments is perfected, i.e. of being a
servant, a friend, or a parent, then the sweetness in that sentiment will not
be any less than that of charming and sweet love of a lover. In all the
sentiments of devotion, the sentiments of sweetness is present.
