SAINTS AND THEIR SERVICE

Talks of saint are so divine, that we are incapable of even taking a critical view of them, then what to speak of experience and realization of their words.
It is very difficult to recognize a saint by our intellect. Ability to recognize
them is possible by a saint or God's grace alone. On attempting to test them, we only will fail, because our way of testing is itself wrong. Saints can be recognized by the means that were shared earlier -
them is possible by a saint or God's grace alone. On attempting to test them, we only will fail, because our way of testing is itself wrong. Saints can be recognized by the means that were shared earlier -
On association, conversing and meeting with a saint, if divine qualities come, if our interest and inclination towards God increases, and we progress in the spiritual path.
The saint does not desire any kind of service whatsoever from us .
At all times, the saint continues to do for our supreme good, without any selfish motive
In our eyes, he who is most knowledgeable on the subject of spirituality, he only is a saint for us.
Also from a gross perspective, one way of recognizing a saint is that a real saint does not want a woman or wealth, he does not want honor and fame, nor does he want any material things, nor any desires or craving remains for these things.
If one associates with saints, it will never be a waste. But while recognizing their greatness, conducting ourselves according to their principles, and associating with them, is real association. It is only by doing so that one can quickly realize the true benefits of their association.
A doubt may arise regarding this, that one can burn even on touching fire unknowingly, then by chance if one comes in contact with a saint, then surely our sins should be destroyed. The answer to this is, this point is valid that sins can be destroyed even if unknowingly one comes in contact with a saint, however, the manner in which fire has the power of illumination, of heat, of digestion, and it also has the power of bestowing heaven and liberation, however, leaving aside the power of heat, we cannot make proper use of its other powers. Unknowingly by touching fire, one can surely burn, but that fire can only burn. However, he who knows the fire as fire in terms of its real significance of its essential properties, and performs actions that are conducive to it, they can even use it for lighting a room and also for cooking a "roti" (indian bread) to satisfy their hunger. Not only that, even a person who is devoid of faith can benefit from the fire. But those who have deep faith, then while chanting the Vedic mantras, if one places "ahuti' into the sacrificial fire, then he can even attain the heavens. And those who believe in God and follow His instructions with sentiments of selflessness, they do sacrifices "yagna" by placing "ahuti" in the sacrificial fire, they can even realize God through fire. In this manner, even though one may not know the saint, solely by their association their sins will be destroyed, but without knowing the saint, knowledge about God and detachment from the worldly objects cannot take place. By recognizing a saint, by associating with him, one can gain knowledge of real-unreal, duty-non-duty, useful-renounceable, essence-not essential. And for us, now and as an outcome, we can renounce sinful things and actions , and selflessly, with faith , conduct ourselves as per their instructions, then ignorance, vexation, actions, mental modifications, lust, become totally non-existent and we can attain the supreme blissful state of God Realization. All these gains are possible by getting to know a saint-great soul, and faithfully associating with them and conducting ourselves according to their instructions.
On this subject there is one more point. When there is nothing in between the fire and us, we get burnt by the fire. However, if we wear shoes on our feet and then touch the fire, then it will not burn the feet. In this manner, if
while associating with a saint, we criticize, complain, condemn etc., and place such obstacles in the way, then even gains such as wiping away our sins will not take place. When unknowingly one touches the fire, it can only burn, however, if someone does not have the sentiments of condemning or criticizing a saint, and even if unknowingly has an association with a saint, then along with destruction of sins, the saint makes him eligible for God Realization.
