"Tasmistajjane
bhedaabhaavaat" (Naradbhakti Sutra 41) Saints do not regard themselves as
having an independent (separate) existence from God, therefore there is not
even a whiff of selfishness in them. They do not have any desire that is divergent
from God. They naturally blend their desire in God's desires; their
satisfaction in God's satisfaction. Therefore they remain ever satisfied and
content in what is ordained by God.
Saints remain dependent on only God.
"Jaahi bidhi raakhe Ram, taahi bidhi rahiye" - they imbibe in their
lives perfectly the above saying "However God keeps me, I will remain
happy in that", and they remain gratified. And in this manner operating
under God's command they remain ever joyful. We too stay as directed by God.
(because not even a single leaf moves opposing to God's will). But in this we
are not pleased, then we continue to be bound. If we had the power to change
God's ordinance, about those things that are not pleasing to the mind and
senses, then we would surely make them favorable to us. But what to do, it is
not in our control, then too, we do not have the power and capability. We
continue to constantly make effort to avoid the failures. But saints are not
like this. They have no thought regarding that which is ordained by God, rather
the present situation appears most favorable to them. Also, in their hearts
where God eternally resides, there is no influence of unfavorable situations.
God Himself says -
Samoham sarvabhooteshu na me dveshyosti
na priyah |
Ye bhajanti tu maam bhaktyaa mayi te
teshu chaapyaham ||
(Gita 9/29)
"Arjuna! "I am the same to
all beings; as such, there is none hateful, nor dear, to Me. But, those who
worship Me with devotion, are in Me and I am also in them. (Gita 9/29)
If you think carefully than this point
can be properly understood. Just as there is a nice house, and no one has taken
hold on it or is interfering, then a good person will be naturally pleased. In
the same way, God resides in His manifest form, in the Saint's pure inner
senses, that is free of egoism and sense of mine-ness, and remains ever pleased
there, as God has no form of restriction or impediment over there. God resides
without any hesitation in such homes. In Shri Ramcharitmanas, Goswami
Tulasidasji has said -
Jaahi na chaahiye kabahun kuch tumh san sahaj sanehu ।
Basahu nirantar taasu man so raaur nij
gehu ॥
In this manner, as God resides in the
hearts of saints, therefore whatever work they do, that is done by God only,
whatever they think, that God only thinks; and so on and so forth their
utterances are absolutely the Truth.
With regards to saints and God, there
are three different sayings -
(1) There is no difference between the
two (Saint and God).
Sant - bhagawant antar nirantar nahin ।
kimapi mati malin kaha daas tulasi ॥
(Vinayapatrika)
Saint is only God and God is only a
saint; in other words, the saints have no separate and disparate existence
apart from God. Only God remains in their place. Some have also said -
Dhoondhaa sab jahaan mein paaya pataa
teraa nahin ।
jab pataa teraa lagaa to ab pataa meraa
nahin ॥
