How to be Free of Attraction to the Fleeting and Perishing

Question -  Maharajji !  We hear, understand, and know and then too we become attracted to the fleeting (rising and perishing) objects and persons.  How can we be freed from this attraction?

Answer -  See,  you have at least recognized this.  Or else,  nowadays this point is not even comprehended, that these things, objects,  persons are fleeting (rising and perishing), and I "Self" am free from that which rises and perishes.   Even recognizing this separation between the two is not an ordinary thing.  People believe them (body and self) to be one.   They do not know that I (self)  is the kind to remain and these (body, mind etc.) are the kind to be fleeting, born and later die.

"Kaamopabhogparama etaavaditi nischitaah"  (Gita 16/11).

Their aim and goal is only one of desires, passion and enjoying worldly sense pleasures.  Brother! You have at least seen that these are the kind to arise and perish !  They do not stay with us,  and we cannot stay with them,  if we recognize this, then this is not a small accomplishment.  If you see among ordinary people, then you will come to know.   If you sit with educated people then you will see.  You think about your condition.   Just as when I first came to Anand Ashram, at that time there used to be Satsang talks in the morning.  You all used to also come at that time.  At that time what was your notion and what is it now?      (to be continued)

God Can Be Attained Assuredly Today

If a four-five year old child fights with his mother, then it is the child that wins, as the mother becomes softened and utterly helpless. In worldly struggles, only he wins who is more powerful, but in the struggle of love, he who has the most love, is defeated.   The child says to the mother, I will not come in your lap. But the mother out of her concern for him says - Please come! Please come to me my child !

This affection in the mother has really emanated from God Himself. God also is in need of the devotee.  The world is not so much in need of a devotee as God is. The child is not so much in need of the mother as the mother is of the child. The child while breast-feeding bites the mother, then too the mother does not get angry. If she were to get angry, would the child be able to live? The mother showers her mercy upon the child. Similarly, God is our mother for infinite births. He cannot abandon and neglect His devotees. He considers the devotees as His crest jewel.

"mein toh hu Bhagatan ko daas,
bhagat mere mukutmani."
‘I am only the servant of the devotee and the devotee is my crest-jewel’

The Lord ever remains ready to provide gain and security to His devotees. Just as the child can’t part company with the mother and the mother cannot live without the child, so also,  God cannot stay without His devotees, and the devotees cannot stay without God.

God appeared from the pillar for Prahlada -

‘Prema badaum prahlaadahiko, jina paahanatem paramesvaru kaadhe.’
(Kavitavali 7/127)

‘I describe (i.e. admire) the hearty love of Prahlada which revealed (brought out) the Great Lord from the stone.’   (Kavitavali 7/127)

God is the supreme disinterested friend of all.   He is available to the sinner and the wicked ones ever more so.  The mother attends to the weak child immediately.  A mother had two sons. One son takes meals at the proper time and thereafter does not take anything. The other son eats every now and then, for the whole day. When both sons sit down for dinner, the mother gives roti (Indian bread) to the son who only eats during meals, because she is concerned that if he remains hungry, he will have to go without food till the next meal. The mother asks the other son to wait for the roti, since he has been munching on food all day long like a goat. Even though both are the sons of the same mother, the mother bears partiality.   In the same way,  God is immediately available to the devotee, who does not want anything else except God, as He is beloved to God, as he does not consider anyone else except God as his own. If the devotee is distressed without God, then God cannot bear his distress.

God Can Be Attained Assuredly Today

The Lord has called Himself as "easily attainable", but "great Souls" have been declared as "rare" -

"Bahunaam janmanaamante jnaanavaanmaam prapadyate,
Vasudevah sarvamiti sa Mahaatmaa sudurlabhah."
(Gita 7:19)

"In the very last of all births (i.e. in the human birth), the man of realization, worships Me, realizing that all is God. Such a great soul is very rare." (Gita 7:19).

"Hari duralabha nahim jagata mein,  harijana duralabha hoya,
hari heryaan saba jaga milai, harijana kahim eka hoya."

"God is not difficult to attain in this world, but a devotee of God is attained with great difficulty. Bhagwaan, if searched can be found everywhere, but a devotee of God is available only somewhere."

The devotees of God are not available  everywhere, but God is available at all places. God appears wherever a devotee resolves to behold Him.

‘Aadi anta jana anaantake, saare kaaraja soya,
Jeh jiva ura nahach dharai, tehi dhiga paragata hoya.’

‘He (God) alone conduces men to accomplish their tasks of infinite number from the beginning to the end,  but He manifests Himself before the soul who bears true love in his heart for Him.’
