Glories of Satsang
(Satsang Ki Mahima )
प्रथम भगति संतन्ह कर संगा ।
(मानस ३/३४/४)
Prathama bhagati santanh kar sangaa.
भक्ति सुतंत्र सकल सुख खानी ।
बिनु सतसंग न पावहिं प्रानी ॥
(मानस ७/४४/३)
Devotion is unrestrained, it is
the storehouse of all happiness.
सतसंगत मुद मंगल मूला ।
सोई फल सिधि सब साधन फूला ॥(मानस १/२/४)
The root of all auspiciousness is `Satsangti` (association with holy company,association with truth). In the tree first there are roots, and the end aim is fruit. Satsangti is both the root and the fruit. All the various spiritual practices, they are all flowers and leaves, which are inbetween the root and the fruit. All spiritual practices are in satsangti Therefore there is great significance of satsang. Sundardasji Maharaj says
सन्त समागम करिये भाई ।
यामें बैठो सब मिल आई॥
One must has association of
saints. It is like a boat, you will cross the ocean of life by sitting in it.
Satsang purifies you like sandalwood and like the philosopher’s stone, one
becomes like gold. Such is the effect of satsang. Further ahead Sundardasji
Maharaj says
और उपाय नहीं तिरने का, सुन्दर काढहि राम दुहाई ।
He swears by Ramji that there is
no other solution for the benediction of mankind. It is a solution that never
fails. Therefore if you sit in satsang then you will be completely gratified.
Associate with spiritual truths. Wherever there is talks of the Lord, where
there is talks and contemplation about the truth, where there is good work that
is getting done, and where there is satsang, then one will have a relationship
with truth. Then jeev being will be entirely gratified.
All the sorrows that come to a being, are all due to association with the untruth and when one associates with the imperishable, then automatically on its own one becomes contented, because jeev is a ansh part of God (ray of His consciousness).
ईश्वर अंस जीव अबिनासी । चेतन अमल सहज सुखरासी ॥
(मानस ७/११६/१)
Therefore with satsang with love
of truth, truth is realized. If one gets satsang, relationship with God, then
he will be supremely gratified. Wherever there is an association with truth,
that is satsang. Real satsang is on renouncing the untruth. Also untruth can
be an aid in satsang. Just as when you talk about truth (satcharcha), then how
do you do it without words, without speaking? When you are doing good work,
then how can one do it without outwardly actions. If you are contemplating on
the truth, then how do you do it without the mind? But in Satsang there is no
other. One becomes immersed and blended with one`s own self. The aim of all of
the following - Satsang, contemplation on the truth, good work, discussion on
the truth, and indepth scrutiny of the holy text, is satsang. For the realization
of the truth, distance yourself from the untruth, then the aim of satsang is
fulfilled.
‘सनमुख होइ जीव मोहि जबहीं ।’
Sanmukh hoyi jeev mohi jabhin The moment one turns towards God, association with truth takes place. Attraction, aversion, jealousy, etc., all the filth that is inside, does not allow you to do satsang. It appears that if a man want he can renounce this; but then too he finds it difficult; for how long? Until, there isn`t a firm resolve. When one firmly determines, then it will not be difficult. Whatever may happen, I only want to walk this path. When one firmly resolves to realize the truth, then it will be easy. (to be continued)
