(Naam Japa aur Seva se Bhagwat Praapti )
In spiritual disciplines
there is little importance of "action", rather
there is predominance of "knowledge" and "inner sentiments" (bhaav).
Actions have predominance in worldly activities. Though
divine name repetition (naam japa) is an activity, then too it is an
extra-ordinary spiritual practice for awakening knowledge and inner sentiments
(bhaav).
In "naam
japa" there is predominance of "bhaav" (feelings and sentiments). Due
to lack of "bhaav", even though one may do "naam japa", there
will not be much gains. On the subject
of "bhaav" there are many talks. First and the foremost, there must
be a
feeling of my very own (apnaapan) with God.
If "naam japa" is done after having a sense of mine-ness (apnaapan), then it has an influence on God.
A
child calls out Maa-Maa. Now, all the sisters that are sitting here,
that have children, they are all called by the name of Maa, but
when they hear that child's cry, not all of them run towards the
child. He who the child is calling "Maa" that sister alone will get up
and run towards
the child and lovingly she hugs the child and nurses it. The point is
that being the mother's if one
calls out to the mother, then it has an affect on the mother. Even
while playing the child cries out Maa-Maa,
but at that time the mother is not so affected.
There is a special method of
doing Naam Japa - repeat the Name of the
Lord, after becoming the Lord's. Only
God is ours, and we are God's. The world is not ours and we are not of this
world. If one determines this firmly,
then immediately there will be gains. Goswamiji Maharaj says -
Bigari janam anek ki
sudharai abahin aaju |
Hohi Ram ko naam japu,
Tulasi taji kusamaaju || (Dohaavali
22)
That which has gone wrong for many life-times,
can be improved today itself. Become God's and then chant His name. How will it be improved today itself? Then he says –
On taking refuge in the Lord, do Lord's worship,
adoration, remembrance, meditating on Him, Divine Name repetition, chanting
etc, then sins of numerous births, can be wiped out not just today, but this
very instance, right now !!! But the mistake we make is that we take refuge
in the world, we remain of this world
and then we call out to God. Due to the
worldly work and business, we do not find time,
we are worldly people, we belong
to the age of "kali" – in this manner if we believe our selves to be worldly
and of this age of "kali" then there
will be greater influence of this world and of Kaliyug, because you have
established your relationship with these. When one becomes connected to the electric
wiring, then current will more certainly
come, similarly if we become connected
with the world and with Kaliyug, then it will have an influence on you. There
is no doubt about it. You say that Maharaj
! we only repeat the name of the Lord
(Ram Ram), then brothers, why do you not become His and then repeat His
divine name. Let us say that in the
divine name repetition there is a sort of emptiness, and the relationship is
with the world and with Kaliyug, then this is a grave mistake.
In
reality, only God is our very own. When we had not taken birth in
this world,
then too He was ours, and when we
die, then too He will remain ours. This world was not ours at first,
will not be ours later on, and at present too it is every moment
separating from us. Life is going
by, the body is also withering and
passing by, and Kaliyug is also passing by, You have no relation whatsoever with the
world. Keep this point in your
awareness at all times. (to be continued)
