How to Serve?

How to Serve?
(Sewaa Kaise Karen ?)

(continued…..)
People carry a false notion that once we accumulate so much money then we will serve in so and so manner. One must ponder over this that those who have that much money, do they serve? They don't serve, then will we serve! When you become rich, then see for yourself! No service will be possible. When you become rich and have lots of money, then such sentiments will not even remain. The sentiments will change. I have seen such men. I am not speaking only from books. One gentleman from Kolkata, a broker, used to come to Swargaashram, Rishikesh for Satsang. He was a very noble man. He used
to say that we are engaged in brokering, and still leave it and come for Satsang. But these people have so much money still they don't come to Satsang. What is the barrier for these rich peole? But later on when he made a lot of money, his Satsang visits were few and far between. He did not get any time for Satsang. When money increases then business also increases and when business increases then it will not leave much time for anything else. Therefore until there is no money, one's thoughts are different. But after becoming rich, the same thoughts do not remain. Very few men have this thought but they are the brave ones, who have digested (overcome) money. Generally money is not digested, but wasted. Power is also wasted. Previously the thought prevails that when we have power we will do so and so, but after gaining power, one suprresses the weak ones. When votes are desired and pleaded for, then the politicians say that we will do so and so to serve you, but after becoming ministers they don't even ask you. Is this service? This is not service, but selfishness. One man went to a village and said that there is so much garbage (rubbish-waste) spread around. Doesn't any sweeper (garbage collector) come to clean it? People replied that there is a sweeper (garbage collector) but he comes after every five years! No one comes before that? When they come to plead for votes, then a sweeper (garbage collector) arrives.

If anyone else is serving, why don't we like it? Because we are not praised and he is praised. He opened a meals distribution (soup kitchen) charity, a university, started giving discourses so he is praised, and we are not. Is this serving or wanting praise? Examine carefully, measure this against a yardstick, then you will come to know. Serving is only an excuse. Evil is hidden under the straitjacket of goodness—"Kaalnemi Jimi Raavan Raahu." Outside is the facade of goodness, but inside is filled with evil. This type of evil hidden under the pretense of goodness is very dangerous. That evil, which is overt, is not so dangerous, as this evil is.

One who has a true sentiment to serve; he will be saddened by others sorrowful state, and will get happy in other's happiness. Without being saddened by others sorrow and becoming happy in their happiness, can anyone serve? Until one does not become saddened by other's sorrow and becomes happy in their happiness, till that time no service can take place. He who is saddened by other's sorrow, will give his happiness to others. He will not engage in happiness for himself; and one who is happy by other's happiness, he will not have to hoard anything for his own happiness. Rote memorize this point that one who is saddened by other's sorrow, he does not have to be saddened by his own sorrow; and he who is pleased in other's happiness, he does not need to enjoy pleasures and hoard anything for his own happiness.

Whatever you have received from world if you accept it as your own and use it for serving others then egoism will arise. Hence, material things are not needed for serving, heart is needed.
