The Real Guru
The real Guru is he who is only concerned about the disciple's welfare (salvation). In whose heart there is no concern about our salvation, how can he be our Guru? He who from his heart wishes our welfare (salvation, liberation), he alone is our real Guru, whether we regard him as a Guru or not, or whether he becomes a Guru or not.
He does not have the desire within to become a Guru, or that others regard him as a Guru and become his disciples. He who has the desire for money / wealth, he is a slave to money. Similarly, he who has desire for disciples and followers, he is a slave to the disciples. He who has desire to become a Guru, he cannot lead others to their eternal good (salvation). He who desires money from his disciples, he is not a Guru, rather he is "pota-chela." Because the disciple has money, therefore his follower is money and money's follower is the guru, therefore really speaking that Guru is a "pota-chela" (grandson- follower) only!
Think about this, he who desires anything from you, can he be your Guru? No! he cannot He who desires any money from you, who desire respect and praise from you, he wants obeisence, he is your "chella1" not a Guru. A geniune great soul, does not have a need for the world, rather only the world needs him. He who has no need for anyone, he alone is a real Guru

Jo jag ki aasaa karai, to jagat Guru wah das ||
He who a real saint-great soul, they do not have a weakness, an inclination to be a Guru, rather they have an inclination in the upliftment of the world. They have a genuine longing for the welfare of the world I too have been in search of good saints-great soul, and I have met them too. However, they never said, that you become my disciple, then you will attain salvation. He who is fond of becoming a Guru, he alone spread such a message that it is very essential to have a Guru and that without a Guru, one cannot attain liberation etc.
There is no such provision that only one who is there at present (alive) can only become a Guru. Shri Shukdevaji Maharaj, was there thousands of years back, but he gave initiation to Charandasji Maharaj! A guru himself gives initiation to a genuine seeker. The reason is that if the disciple is genuine, then it is not necessary for the Guru to search for him, on the contrary, the Guru himself meets. He who has a real genuine longing will get a true saint, a great soul.
