Pride gives Pain to Everyone
How to get rid of Pride? On critically thinking about this, the thought that came was - Man should not have a collation with others, then pride can go away. Wherever we blend with other persons and see (compare), then pride arises. Pride is the inertness of all sins. On one hand there is "pride" and on the other hand, "desires" – these two deficiencies are such that on having these, then thereafter, no other deficiencies are left. No faults remain, no sins remain and nothing that causes one's downfall in the entire world remains. I have thought through this very carefully and seen that all sorrows, vexation, jealousy, calamity, cause for crying, moaning, hell, jail etc. whatever there is, all are only due to the following two - pride and desires.

As long as pride remains till then nature remains unsettled, it does not improve. Then what are we to do? Only look at yourself. Never ever look at others at all. Let not your eyes go towards others, as to whether they are doing good or bad. If your sight goes towards others, you will inevitably develop pride.

Tere bhaave kuch karo, bhalo buro sansaar |
Narayana tu baithike, apnaa bhavan buhaar ||

He who thinks he has may good qualities and traits, will give pain, displeasure and sorrow to others. Pay attention! The way this happens is that those who do not have those qualities, it will prick those people. And you are not with those qualities, you are with flaws, then others will be pinched by those flaws, alongside, those faults will most certainly prick you as well. Thus saving others from pain (sorrow and displeasure) and you yourself to be saved from pride, is one and the same thing. If there is pride from any thing at all, then it will without doubt cause pain (displeasure, suffering) to others. Only spiritual joy is such that in it you remain blissful, where you yourself remain happy and others will also experience joy. Other than that, there is no worldly pleasure, in which someone does not get pain (displeasure or sorrow). Therefore, the enjoyer of pleasures will be the kind to give pain (displeasure) to others, and will be the kind to harm others. (to be continued)
